Optimizing Citibike for a Sustainable and Resilient Urban Future

In New York City, bike users often experience frustration due to inconsistent bike availability, especially during peak hours. This inefficiency:

  • Decreases ridership

  • Lowers Users Trust

  • Undermines sustainable transport goals

  • Fails to employ a valuable underutilized workforce

Push The Herd exists to bridge this critical gap - for the system, the people, and the planet.

Push The Herd is a New York–based initiative (operating as a nonprofit or potentially a B‑Corp) focused on optimizing Citi Bike service through smarter, data-driven rebalancing. The goal? To ensure bikes are available when and where people need them, especially during peak hours, improving user trust and fostering sustainable transportation.

IHow we Sustain?

  • Smarter Rebalancing

We use real-time data analytics to predict demand and strategically reposition bikes.

  • Employment Opportunities

Employ underemployed works for bike distribution, offering stable jobs and promoting economic equity.

  • Better Experience

Improve the reliability of the bike share system to reduce user frustration, boost ridership, and support sustainable urban transportation.

  • Sustainable Operation

Operate as Non profit or B-Corp, funding activities through partnerships with bike-sharing operators, municipalities, and grants to reinvest in community impact.

“Behind every bike we place is a person given a chance a normal employee, an underemployed New Yorker finding purpose. Our work proves that a smarter city is also a more compassionate one.
